Israel's defense minister rejected international demands for an end to Israeli military operations in the Gaza Strip, saying on Monday that the current phase of operations against the Hamas militant group will take time.

According to health officials in the Hamas-controlled area, more than 17,000 Palestinians have been killed as a result of two months of airstrikes along with a bloody ground operation.

In an interview with The Associated Press, Gallant declined to promise a concrete deadline but indicated that the current phase, which includes heavy ground combat with air power support, could take several weeks.  May be.

The UN General Assembly is holding an emergency session on Tuesday to vote on a draft resolution calling for an immediate humanitarian ceasefire in Gaza.
